WSJ: Best Buy Stocking More 'Gadgets' This Season

According to the WSJ, Best Buy is ramping up to sell the iPad in all of its stores by this weekend, and will promote iPads, Kindles, Smartphones and other wares more heavily than in years past. The company is reportedly culling its collection of DVDs and CDs, noting their customers' migration to digital media; they're also planning gaming centers in their stores for customers to play with all of the kinetic gaming options from Wii to Playstation accessories. TV sales are falling despite the intro of 3-D models; likewise, Best Buy estimates that iPads are cannibalizing the sales of notebook computers.

Engaget's 'iTV' Scoop Has Financial Folks in Frenzy

Apparently the pundits now can't keep quiet about the Apple TV (or iTV, as speculation assumes it will be re-renamed) and how much money it could make Apple, thanks to the above-linked scoop by Engadget.

Maybe. If they get it right. So far, Apple TV hasn't delivered.

Here's what's interesting to me about the current Apple TV -- I haven't got one.

I think I want this one. It may be hard to believe, but I've still got a shiny black (actually, probably matte black and faux wood) Standard Definition RCA TV in the living room upon which we watch the various and sundry things that we download stream from the box. I've wanted an HDTV for a while now, and keep telling myself that if I hit a certain milestone (this time it's sales for the Fall 2010 BOOM Jackson magazine) that I'll get one.

The funny thing is, moving to HDTV isn't a total no-brainer for me. Why? Quality of experience. The one problem you never have on an old-school TV is a lower-resolution image than the TV can handle, since SD is already at the bottom of the scale. So, the picture always looks pretty decent. Plus, images are never squeeze out of proportion or otherwise made to look silly.
