It depends on how rich you are. As this chart, from Timothy Noah's interesting series on inequality in America, shows, over the last 50-odd years, income growth rates have been more equitable and more favorable to the less well off under Democratic presidents.
Sure, it's not totally fair, but an interesting chart nonetheless. I suppose the core issue is whether the policies enacted are, largely, Republican or Democratic in nature -- and, if one or the other, how does that related to the policies of the contemporary versions of those two parties.
My gut tells me that mixed government is good -- if the GOP does take the House this election, then perhaps they'll be on footing to do more good-faith negotiation with Obama than they have as the three-way minority party. (The GOP is an excellent minority party, great with party discipline, but kinda a train- wreck when it comes to actually running things.) GOP will send cost-cutting measures, the Senate will tweak them, Obama will sign or veto depending on how drastic or stupid the cutting is... that sort of thing. Might end up with one of those long blue lines yet.
